Being an author has many ups and downs.
After writing full-time for over a decade, I notice those ups and downs become more measured; more expected.
I’m not sure if it’s actual age/wisdom or just simply after endless roller coaster rides of beautiful, creative highs, and painful lows, the journey evens out a bit. I’ve learned to breathe through the shocks such as:
—sorry, this genre isn’t selling anymore! Can you now write: Insert new genre here.
—Yeah, your last book didn’t sell well so we’re gonna pass on this one.
—you won’t make money anymore unless you do: TikTok/KU/Translations/Audio/FB ads/Amazon Ads/Pinterest/ etc
I’ve also learned to appreciate the ups more instead of blowing by them in the pursuit for MORE. It’s hard not to chase more. I think it’s part of the human condition to keep creating new goal posts to grow, but when we stop noticing how much we’ve achieved - how brave and amazing we are with each book or post we write—how our creativity is a gift for others because we work so hard—the ups don’t matter as much.
And that’s…sad. Because life is short and we should celebrate more.
Today, I’m celebrating. Because my new romcom, The Reluctant Flirt, has an exclusive cover reveal from PEOPLE.
And that’s really cool!
Check it out!
The purple makes me happy. So does shoes. And possessive cats who try to cock block the hero. I’m terming it a cat block, lol.
I’m in final, final edits and enjoying the hell out the book, even though I’m looking forward to letting it go to the readers since I’m on version three hundred **probably only 6 but it feels like 300 lol**.
Anyhoo, another reminder to enjoy the wins because they should be savored instead of brushed off!
So exciting!!! Congratulations!
Congrats on the cover. Ups and downs of authorship makes you stronger and work harder. That's why I never stick to one genre.
